ION Energy launches cloud-based battery management platform

ION Energy, which builds battery management systems for EVs and stationary energy storage, has announced the launch of EDISON Analytics, a cloud-hosted battery lifecycle management platform. Leveraging battery data, advanced electronics, machine learning and AI, the platform is designed to enhance performance and extend the life of Li-ion batteries.

ION says batteries account for up to 45% of the cost of an EV, so the financial viability of a vehicle relies on battery life and performance.

Edison Analytics enables
mobility fleet owners like Ola and Uber that are incorporating EVs into their
fleet to improve their total cost of ownership (TCO). ION also hopes OEMs and
battery-pack makers will adopt the software to provide drivers with remote
service, support, and extended warranties.

The software is a full-stack battery management and intelligence SaaS platform solution. ION says the platform unifies data from the triple Es that have the most impact on battery life: Entity (factors inside the battery like cell selection, design, and thermal management), Environment (factors outside the battery but beyond user control, like weather and traffic), and Experience (factors controlled by the user). By amalgamating and assessing the data from these three sources, the software attempts to customize the life and performance of each user.

Dashboard for Fleet Managers

By 2020, ION intends to have 1 GWh
of batteries under the Edison management platform and build Edison into a $1M+
business unit.

ION Energy CEO Akhil Aryan said, “Edison will help users accelerate deployment speed, improve uptime and extend battery life by up to 40%. Our objective is to help companies make data-driven decisions, and eliminate the wasted time trying to make sense from the CSV files that they are currently collecting and opening in Excel. Edison Analytics will leapfrog teams working on building batteries into a future where advanced visualization driven by AI will reveal insights from their data securely and scalably.”
