Diving into EV motor and control system measurements (Webinar)

Continual improvements and innovations in motor and inverter technologies are key to furthering the goal of global decarbonization in the transportation industry. During this webinar, engineering professionals who develop motor and inverter systems will learn how to more effectively benchmark data for and troubleshoot issues with energy efficiency in EV powertrains.

Join this session at our Fall Virtual Conference on EV Engineering, presented by Yokogawa Test & Measurement, to learn about:

  • Baselines for system efficiency and inverter control signal analysis at the systems level
  • Critical measurements to benchmark inverter input, inverter output, and motor output
  • Analysis of motor control signals like torque control variables, positional sensors, and PWM and torque measurements

Allison Transmission to develop electric hybrid sub-system for US Army

Allison Transmission has been awarded a $6.55-million contract from the US Army’s Ground Vehicle Systems Center to develop its Next Generation Electrified Transmission, which is intended for parallel-hybrid vehicles. Allison will use the funds “to design, develop and test an electric hybrid sub-system in Allison’s Next Generation Electrified Transmission for armored combat vehicles.”

The Next Generation Electrified Transmission includes a 220 kW electric motor and inverter that provide on-board vehicle power. “Our technology will deliver electric hybrid propulsion using blended torque that provides edge-of-the box performance or true engine-off silent mobility,” says VP of Defense Programs at Allison Transmission Dana Pittard.

Allison says American Rheinmetall Vehicles has chosen the Next Generation Electrified Transmission for its Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV) offering, and it expects the transmission to meet the US Army’s OMFV and Main Battle Tank requirements.

“For fleets that are developing new wheeled or tracked vehicles, Allison can tailor a transmission, electric hybrid or electric propulsion solution specifically for that application,” says Pittard. “Allison engineers and manufactures reliable and fully customizable propulsion solutions, so customers experience reduced downtime and increased ability to accomplish mission objectives.”

BYD and Castrol to collaborate on fluids and greases for EVs

Chinese automaker BYD and bp-owned lubricant company Castrol have signed a three-year collaboration agreement for Castrol ON products, which include fluids and greases designed for EVs.

BYD will officially recommend Castrol ON EV Transmission Fluid for its Han EVs, and will use Castrol ON fluids in its EVs.

“BYD (China) will promote Castrol ON products in its online stores, after-sales centers and across its dealer network in China,” says bp. “Both companies will use co-branded assets to market the products in a series of service campaigns designed to inform car owners about the benefits of using EV-specific lubricants.”

“The cooperation agreement will also see BYD (China) promote the use of Castrol ON EV Transmission Fluid by the brand’s New Energy Vehicle (NEV) racing team competing in the China Rally Championship (CRC),” according to bp.

“This strategic cooperation with BYD (China) will help us pursue EV opportunities in both first-fill and service-fill, underpinning Castrol’s leading position in the China EV market,” says VP of Castrol China Mike Zhang.
