Wiggins Lift releases high-capacity electric forklift

Forklift manufacturer Wiggins Lift unveiled a fully electric industrial forklift, Yard eBull, at the Breakbulk Americas Show in Houston in early October. The Yard eBull has a 30,000 to 70,000 lb capacity and is commercially available with a six-month lead time.

Wiggins says the Yard eBull achieves higher capacities than other electric lifts by using high-voltage lithium-ion batteries instead of the lead-acid batteries typical of smaller models. Wiggins reports that, in addition to meeting higher industrial demands, the lithium-ion battery offers better resilience and a longer lifespan.

“We’ve been in the material handling field for over 50 years, so producing a large-capacity, zero-emission forklift was a logical next step for us,” said Wiggins director of sales Micah McDowell.

In the Yard eBull’s production, Wiggins partnered with Los Angeles-based transportation lab Thor Trucks, which provided batteries and system integration solutions to improve R&D efforts. Thor Trucks also collaborated with UPS and AxleTech earlier this year.

Efacec to use ITT Cannon’s liquid cooling system with 3M Novec dielectric fluid in DC fast chargers

Efacec Electric mobility is set to use ITT Cannon’s high-power charging (HPC) system in charging stations throughout the US and Europe. Specifically, ITT Cannon will provide connectors, cables and a DC liquid-cooling unit. The system is capable of providing up to 20 miles per minute at 350 kW during charging, a rate seven times faster than 50 kW DC fast chargers. A 500 kW system is currently in development as well.

A key difference between this HPC and traditional units is the inclusion of 3M Novec Engineered Fluids dielectric cooling liquid. The non-flammable, non-toxic fluid dissipates heat by running from the HPC’s cable through the connector’s contact system.

“We needed a connector and cable solution flexible and lightweight enough for anyone to use, with outstanding heat dissipation that leads to minimal temperature increase. We chose ITT Cannon’s HPC solution because of its superior ergonomic design and performance,” said  Efacec Electric Mobility managing director Pedro Silva.

Tesla Increases Price Of Autopilot For After-Delivery Purchases

After-delivery purchases come at a $2,000 premium.

Tesla‘s Enhanced Autopilot package costs $5,000 (no change here) while ordering a new car (all models), but the company decided to increase the price when purchasing the package after-delivery through an over-the-air update – from $6,000 to $7,000.

The change means that it will cost $2,000 more to add the Autopilot package after-the-fact, compared to $1,000 previously, which is a lot. The first thought is that new features (like Navigate on Autopilot) and others that still need to be announced and released will represent a higher value.

It’s expected that current customers still will be honored to pay just $1,000 more ($6,000 total), but the new buyers not only will pay $2,000 after delivery, but are warned that the price could change again: “After delivery prices are subject to change.”

Enhanced Autopilot

With Enhanced Autopilot your car will steer, accelerate and brake for you within almost any traffic lane! It will also automatically change lanes on most highways to overtake other cars or navigate to interchanges and exits. And with regular over-the-air software updates, you’ll always have access to our most advanced features and functionality.

Manitou electrifies two construction-telehandler prototypes with DEUTZ drive systems

Handling equipment specialist Manitou Group has modified two construction telehandler prototypes to include DEUTZ electric and hybrid-drive systems. The two companies have collaborated on this project as part of Cologne’s ELECTRIP Event Week. Manitou is E-DEUTZ’s first-ever partner.

For the hybrid prototype, the partners took a Manitou MT 1335 and swapped its 75 kW DEUTZ TCD 3.6 diesel engine for a 55 kW DEUTZ TCD 2.2 system and a 20 kW electric motor (its electric system uses 48 V).  The fully-electric Manitou MT 1135 telehandler prototype has a 360 V vehiclepower supply, a 60 kW electric motor and a 30 kWh capacity battery.

“It is the first full electric construction telehandler prototype that we realized thanks to DEUTZ, and we are proud to work in this explorative phase with a confident supplier. This telehandler enables Manitou to enhance our existing hybrid and electric ranges. Innovation is really a part of Manitou Group’s DNA, and electrification allows us to match our CSR approach and our customers’ expectations,” says Manitou CEO Michel Denis.

Tesla Says SEC Issued Subpoena To Automaker Over Model 3 Production

And, of course, that “considering taking Tesla private” statement made by Elon Musk will be evaluated too.

Tesla has formally admitted to being issued a subpoena by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Apparently, the SEC will evaluate two potential issues:

  1. Musk’s statement of “considering taking Tesla private.”
  2. Projections for Model 3 production made in 2017 and other public statements connected to Model 3 production.

The Department of Justice has voluntarily asked Tesla to provide info related to these matters too, though no subpoena has been issued by the DOJ as of today.

Here’s the statement issued by Tesla:

We receive requests for information from regulators and governmental authorities, such as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board, the SEC, the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) and various state agencies. We routinely cooperate with such regulatory and governmental requests.

In particular, the SEC has issued subpoenas to Tesla in connection with (a) Mr. Musk’s prior statement that he was considering taking Tesla private and (b) certain projections that we made for Model 3 production rates during 2017 and other public statements relating to Model 3 production. The DOJ has also asked us to voluntarily provide it with information about each of these matters and is investigating.

Aside from the settlement with the SEC relating to Mr. Musk’s statement that he was considering taking Tesla private, there have not been any developments in these matters that we deem to be material, and to our knowledge no government agency in any ongoing investigation has concluded that any wrongdoing occurred. As is our normal practice, we have been cooperating and will continue to cooperate with government authorities. We cannot predict the outcome or impact of any ongoing matters. Should the government decide to pursue an enforcement action, there exists the possibility of a material adverse impact on our business, results of operation, prospects, cash flows, and financial position.
