After recently expanding its Supercharger pilot program for non-Tesla EV owners, the Supercharger network became the ‘largest 150 kW+ public fast-charging network’ in Europe overnight. It’s quite impressive that Tesla did that basically by just flipping a switch.

Vermont selects Center for Sustainable Energy to administer new EV incentive programs

Vermont’s Agency of Transportation has selected the nonprofit Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) to develop and administer a suite of clean transportation incentive programs for state residents.

Vermont is the seventh state to select CSE to manage a clean transportation incentive program. CSE’s role encompasses program design, incentive management, customer support, dealer education and creating online platforms.

The new programs, authorized by the 2021 Vermont Transportation Bill (Act 55):

  • The Incentive Program for New PEVs has a budget of $3 million. Launched in late 2019, the program offers incentives of $1,500 to $4,000 for the lease or purchase of new plug-in vehicles (higher amounts require low-income eligibility).
  • The Replace Your Ride Program will have a budget of $1.5 million. An income-qualified program will be developed to offer incentives of $3,000 to scrap vehicles more than 10 years old and replace them with cleaner transportation.
  • A budget of $50,000 has been allocated to establish an electric bike incentive.

“Our mission is to help government agencies at all levels to achieve their goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from transportation and provide a healthier environment for their constituents,” said Mark Bielecki, CSE Senior Director of Transportation Programs. “We are eager to make it easier for Vermonters to switch to electric vehicles and other modes of clean transportation.”

Information on current EV incentives in the state is available at Drive Electric Vermont.

Tackling the peak demand charge problem to cost-effectively scale the EV revolution

Sponsored by ads-tec Energy

EVs are playing an increasingly important role in the transition to a net-zero emissions world and are expected to comprise at least two-thirds of global car sales by 2040. But even as EVs are becoming more widely available and affordable, the demand for fast, convenient charging is nowhere near to being met. The current grid structure and limitations will put the brakes on the EV revolution but there are solutions that turn the current grid challenges into grid assets.

The new ADS-TEC Energy research, conducted in conjunction with engineering services firm SAI Group, looks at how patented, battery-buffered charging technology enables charging operators to cost-effectively scale the charging infrastructure that underpins an all electric-vehicle world.
