New car prices are rising, and this may be fine if buyers didn’t find some emerging tech a waste of money.

Chevrolet’s electric Silverado pickup to debut at CES 2022
Electric pickups are expected to be the next big thing, and newcomer Rivian stole a march on everyone—Ford’s F-150 Lightning is in pre-production, but deliveries aren’t to start until spring of 2022. Tesla’s Cybertruck is delayed until who-knows-when.
GM may be struggling to catch up, but it’s moving forward. The latest news is that Chevrolet’s electric Silverado pickup will make its debut at CES 2022 in early January. We’ve heard few details about Chevy’s e-pickup, but we do know that the new Silverado will be a native EV, built on GM’s Ultium platform. There will be separate fleet and retail versions, and range will be up to 400 miles.
Now Chevy has teased a couple of interesting new features. Four-Wheel Steer is a chassis feature that enables the vehicle to steer all four wheels (perhaps enabling things like the Hummer EV’s Crab Mode). The electric Silverado will also offer a fixed-glass roof (for the retail variant), which will provide “expansive visibility, increased headroom, and an enhanced experience of spaciousness for both front and rear passengers.”
“Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado—and more—and put it into an electric pickup that will delight retail and commercial customers alike,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “No one is going to be able to touch us in the battery-electric truck space.”
