DTE Energy installs four Chargepoint fast chargers in downtown Detroit

ChargeD, a collaboration led by local utility DTE Energy with support from the City of Detroit, GM and Blue Energy, has installed four Chargepoint Express 250 fast charging stations at Capitol Park in downtown Detroit, as part of Project Kinetic, a new mobility program. It also plans to install two more public chargers downtown.

As manager and facilitator of the project, DTE Energy provided the electrical infrastructure and upgrades for the fast chargers. Blue Energy is the owner/operator of the chargers. Together, the two companies will collect and analyze data from all four chargers.

Formed in January 2018, Project Kinetic is a collaboration
between the public and private sectors to identify and deploy innovative
solutions for Detroit’s toughest mobility challenges. ChargeD is one of five
Project Kinetic pilot programs, and the second to launch in the city.

Chargepoint VP Rich Quattrini said, “The fast-charge hubs that make up this initiative set an example of how public, private, and utility partnerships can be used to drive the electrification of transportation and provide a benchmark for other efforts around the country. Public-private partnerships like this are the clearest path forward for communities transitioning to a cleaner transportation future.”
