Dana acquires vehicle embedded software developer Pi Innovo

Powertrain manufacturer Dana has acquired Pi Innovo, a maker of embedded software solutions and electronic control units that support the light vehicle, commercial vehicle and off-highway markets. Dana previously held a non-controlling interest.

The acquisition of Pi Innovo enables Dana to increase its in-house electrodynamics capabilities and electrification product portfolio by adding a library of EV application software, vehicle level controllers and auxiliary controllers.

“The Pi Innovo team has provided exceptional modular software and controls solutions for OEMs for more than 25 years,” said Dana CEO James Kamsickas. “Integrating Pi Innovo with Dana’s e-Propulsion software capabilities will further enhance our ability to provide value for our customers as they continue to accelerate their EV portfolio development.”

Electrify America’s redesigned mobile app incorporates public and home charging

Electrify America has rolled out a full redesign of its EV charging mobile app. The new version is available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.

Building on the foundation of the original Electrify America mobile app, the redesign offers improved functionality, faster account creation and new features including biometric authentication, optimized contactless payment and a search bar optimized for one-hand use. Prices can be viewed in advance by selecting the desired station in the app.

EA says more than half of its customers use the mobile app to locate stations, check availability and pay for and start charging sessions.

The updated app is designed to allow users to seamlessly switch between public and home charging. Following Electrify Home’s upcoming debut of its HomeStation WiFi-enabled residential charger, customers will be able to connect their chargers with the mobile app to start and stop charging sessions remotely, view charging history, and schedule charging during off-peak hours.

Prior to embarking on the redesign, Electrify America sought extensive feedback from both experienced and new EV drivers, using focus groups, individual interviews, online surveys, field studies and usability testing with hundreds of current and prospective EV drivers.

“We did a lot of listening and reflecting on what we could improve to make the charging experience as smooth and efficient as possible, and we believe this new app will meet those expectations while appealing to a wider audience of EV drivers,” said Manager of Brand and Digital Marketing Brenna Corrigan. “This redesigned app helps us to deliver on what we believe the electric vehicle driving experience should be—effortless and enjoyable.”
