Webasto adds two new wallboxes to its EV charging portfolio

Webasto Charging Systems has added two new wallboxes to its EV charging product family. The TurboConnect and TurboDX 2.0 Plug-In Level 2 chargers are designed and manufactured to withstand any conditions.

Both are certified by UL and ETL, as well as other standardization bodies.

The TurboConnect Level 2 charger offers 11.5 kW of power at 240 V with a maximum output of 48 A. The TurboDX 2.0 Plug-In charger provides charging power of 7.7 kW at 240 V.

“The TurboConnect and TurboDX 2.0 Plug-In wallboxes offer a high-quality, high-performance solution for workplaces, fleets, dealerships and other public or private lots,” said Michael Bauer, Executive VP at Webasto Charging Systems.

BAE Systems and Heart Aerospace to build a battery for a regional electrified airplane

British aerospace company BAE Systems and Swedish electric airplane manufacturer Heart Aerospace will collaborate to create the battery system for Heart’s ES-30 regional electrified airplane.

The ES-30 airplane will be powered by four electric motors. It has an all-electric range of 200 kilometers (124 miles) and an extended reserve hybrid range of 400 kilometers (248 miles), with 30 passengers. It also has the ability to fly up to 800 kilometers (497 miles) with 25 passengers on board.

Heart says it has 230 orders and 100 options for the ES-30, along with a letter of intent for an additional 108 units.

“Our solution builds on decades of expertise delivering technologies and systems needed to progress sustainable transportation,” said Ehtisham Siddiqui, VP and GM of Controls and Avionics Solutions at BAE Systems.

Taiga releases fast charging software update for its electric snowmobiles

Canadian off-road EV manufacturer Taiga Motors has released an over-the-air Taiga OS software update to enable DC fast charging capabilities for its existing battery hardware, permitting charge times as fast as 0-80% in 30 minutes. 

In Quebec, where Taiga is based, an estimated 5,000 kilometers of the province’s more than 30,000-kilometer trail network are accessible on an electric snowmobile. Owners can simply plug into Taiga chargers or standard automotive fast charging stations using the already equipped CSS1 combo connector port.

Nomad snowmobile owners will receive a Taiga OS update enabling DC fast charging by accepting a prompt on the vehicle’s digital display.

“Introducing the fastest charging option available on the market to our range of up to 100 kilometers is a game changer for our customers and to Taiga’s mission of accelerating powersports electrification,” said Sam Bruneau, CEO at Taiga.

Kia debuts EV9 SUV in North America alongside news it will be assembled in the US

Just over a week after its global premiere streamed from Korea, Kia has debuted its upcoming EV9 SUV in North America, beginning with the crowds attending this year’s New York Auto Show. Many of the details shared are regurgitated from last week’s event, but Kia did share further insights into its production plans, which will soon include assembly in the US.
