CATL to supply Honda with 123 GWh of EV batteries by 2030

CATL and Honda Motor China have announced that Honda will purchase 123 GWh of CATL’s EV batteries in China from 2024 through 2030.

In 2020, CATL and Honda signed an agreement to form a strategic alliance, which has enabled the two companies to cooperate in a broad range of areas, including joint development, stable supply and the recycling and reuse of batteries. The latest deal is seen as a further strengthening of their partnership.

The battery supply agreement will secure a long-term stable battery supply for Honda and enable both companies to maintain their position in the e-mobility transition, says CATL.

Leviton’s new EV charging stations integrate with lighting and smart home tech

Leviton sells both residential EV chargers and wireless smart home technology. Now the company is bringing these two product lines together with the launch of a new line of charging stations that are compatible with the My Leviton app.

The new EV Series Charging Stations, which will be available this quarter, includes 32-, 48- and 80-amp Level 2 charging stations that are designed to be easily integrated into the My Leviton ecosystem, which enables users to “take control of their entire homes with a single app, including EV chargers, lighting and load centers.”

Using the My Leviton App, users can remotely view the status of the charging station, and can be notified if any fault occurs during a charging session.

The My Leviton app for iOS and Android can also be used to control the Leviton Smart Load Center and the Decora Smart WiFi product lines, letting users perform actions such as viewing real-time load center energy consumption and scheduling lighting scenes.

Leviton’s EV Series charging stations feature a sleek look, an Energy Star rating and a water-resistant enclosure rated NEMA Type 3R. They can be installed in indoor or outdoor locations.

In addition to the My Leviton app, the EV Series can easily integrate with other Leviton electrical infrastructure solutions, including surge protection devices. Leviton has a dedicated EVSE support team to assist customers with installation requirements, local codes, and rebates and incentives.

“This EVSE launch [is not only] expanding the portfolios for two of Leviton’s key brands, but it is also providing residential EV owners with a completely new smart home experience,” said Leviton’s Director of EVSE products Andrew Taddoni.

Australian shipping firm orders 36 Volvo FL electric trucks

Australian express freight company Team Global Express has ordered 36 Volvo FL electric trucks–apparently the automaker’s largest electric truck order in Australia to date.

The Volvo FL electric trucks are designed for urban distribution and have a load capacity of 5.5 tonnes. They will become a part of Team Global Express Sydney’s metropolitan pick-up and delivery fleet and will be commissioned during the first quarter of 2023.

“We have the broadest electric truck lineup in the industry, which makes it possible to electrify city and regional transport already today,” said Martin Merrick, President of Volvo Group Australia.

LAX takes delivery of Nikola Class 8 electric truck

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), the agency that operates Los Angeles International Airport (LAX),  is gradually electrifying its fleet of more than 1,100 vehicles. It currently has in service or on order some 26 Ford F-150 Lightning trucks, 10 Ford Mach-E SUVs, 120 electric sedans, 32 electric trucks and 27 electric buses.

The latest addition to the fleet is a Nikola Tre Class 8 semi-tractor, which will be used to move paving equipment, transport construction materials and pull other heavy equipment at LAX work sites.

The Nikola Tre BEV features a 733 kWh battery pack, and claims a range of up to 330 miles. LAX’s Tre will use a new 75 kW DC charging station. The LAWA purchase qualified for a $120,000 rebate via the California Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project. The truck is expected to have significantly reduced maintenance and fuel costs compared with a comparable legacy vehicle.

“By investing in the vehicles and charging infrastructure needed to support a fully electrified fleet, LAWA is laying the groundwork to achieve carbon neutrality from airport operations by 2045,” said LAWA CEO Justin Erbacci. “This purchase not only helps to reduce our environmental impact, but it also demonstrates our commitment to innovation and the future of transportation.”

“LAWA’s commitment to transition its fleet to fully electric is a direct reflection of the organization’s bold sustainability goals,” said Nikola President and CEO Michael Lohscheller. “Nikola is proud to have our Nikola Tre battery-electric vehicle be the first Class 8 semi-truck to be added to the City of Los Angeles municipal fleet.”
