EV adoption is a critical component of the global imperative to decarbonize, but it’s held back when people cannot reliably access charging due to the cost or complexity of installing chargers where they live or work. One year ago, Liberty Plugins and Wallbox set out to challenge the assumption that managed, access-controlled charging requires a costly and unreliable internet connection.

Together, we launched the Liberty CodeConnect™ Wallbox Charger, a turnkey Level 2 charger designed to radically simplify deployment. An internet connection is the weakest link in EV charging, and by replacing it with our patented Liberty Plugins encryption technology we are able to offer a more affordable, secure and accessible way to charge. The industry’s response has been outstanding, culminating in recognition as an EC&M 2026 Product of the Year category winner.

Today, multi-unit developments, workplaces, local governments and remote locations across North America are reaping the benefits of network-free charging thanks to Liberty CodeConnect™ Wallbox chargers. As we mark this one-year milestone, we’re reflecting with gratitude on the support, dedication and teamwork from our partners and clients that made this vision a success.

From Industry Challenge to Innovative Solution

Liberty identified a critical gap in the EV infrastructure market: property managers, municipalities, parking garages and fleet operators needed an affordable, reliable charging solution, but traditional managed systems often proved inaccessible due to high costs, cybersecurity concerns, or dependence on Wi-Fi and cellular coverage, which may not be dependable or even available.

To address this challenge, Liberty worked with Wallbox to combine the world-class Pulsar Plus hardware with Liberty’s patented CodeConnect™ encryption technology. Despite the chargers being fully air-gapped, administrators are able to monetize sessions and manage who has access to their equipment.

By eliminating internet dependency, we removed some of the cost and many of the headaches that slow EV deployment and adoption.

Where the Liberty CodeConnect™ Wallbox Charger is Making an Impact

The flexibility of network-free managed charging has enabled deployments in locations where traditional networked chargers struggled to operate.

Multi-Unit & Multi-Family Homes

In apartment communities, condominiums, and managed neighborhoods, property managers can offer residents shared chargers that pay for themselves, without signing costly, long-term contracts. Because CodeConnect doesn’t depend on cell or Wi-Fi connectivity, operating costs stay significantly lower over time.

Government & Municipalities

At city parks, public libraries, downtown squares, and municipal fleet locations, governments and their citizens can benefit from EV charging while adhering to public-sector cybersecurity guidelines. Skipping the network connection removes a major attack surface and much of the recurring cost associated with these systems. The same chargers can even be used by municipal employees and the public with different access terms or pricing.

Workplace & Commercial Facilities

For employee charging, guest amenities, and controlled-access corporate lots, facilities teams can issue reusable PINs for staff or time-bound access codes for visitors without creating a new account. There’s no need to loop in IT for network provisioning or pay for ongoing connectivity, which keeps both installation and long-term operating costs down while giving facilities teams full control.

Remote & Off-Grid Locations

In national parks, recreational areas, military facilities, rural tourism destinations, and highway travel hubs, remote sites can offer EV charging as an amenity to entice a new class of driver to visit, even where cell coverage and Wi-Fi are unreliable or unavailable. Because the charger doesn’t rely on a network connection to function, these locations avoid the high cost of extending connectivity to remote areas, making it possible to add charging affordably and keep it that way.
