Liberty CodeConnect™ Technology
Enables the worlds best chargers to manage access and take payments – offline.
What: CodeConnect technology takes the internet out of the smart charger, offering a convenient middle path between free charging, and the overhead that comes with networked chargers. We partner with leading OEMs to manufacture CodeConnect versions of their EV chargers.
Why: As a hardware manufacturer, we know that it’s relatively cheap and easy to add cellular, wifi or ethernet connectivity to a charger so that it can be controlled via OCPP. As a network operator, we know that these features add as much surface area for frustrating failures as they do practical control: an estimated 50-70% of EV charger failures are in networking. The cost that comes with networked chargers reflects that reality.
How: CodeConnect technology is patented by Liberty Plugins. It leverages a time-based encryption scheme to synchronize the offline charger to an online payment server. A session that is purchased or authorized online is able to be validated offline by the charger, granting access to a timed charging session. Alternatively, frequent users can be given codes that can be reused medium to long term, over the course of a lease, a stay or similar. Enhanced Access: Liberty’s Keypad and RFID Technology
For site hosts utilizing the Liberty Plugins Hydra™ Management Hub, we offer hardware-based access solutions that ensure charging remains accessible regardless of cellular connectivity or app preference. These physical interfaces provide a seamless alternative to mobile-based activation.
Standalone PIN Access
Site hosts can provide drivers with predetermined PIN codes for use on our 12-digit keypads. This allows for a “phone-free” experience where the driver does not need to rely on a mobile app or cellular signal to start a session.
Secure RFID Integration
Our hardware supports Secured Token technology via RFID. Drivers can initiate charging by swiping a Liberty-registered RFID card, a standard employee badge, or a compatible keyfob on the Liberty sensor, which is conveniently integrated into the keypad unit.
Hardware-Level Fallback
To ensure unrivaled uptime, our hardware locally stores authorized credentials. If the Hydra™ unit experiences a temporary communication issue with the backend, it can still verify and grant access locally, providing a critical “failsafe” for both the host and the driver.
Centralized Administration
All physical access methods, including specific PINs and RFID charging activation, are easily managed and updated through the Liberty Access Platform™ dashboard.
